What is a "concierge"?
The word "concierge" originated from the French words "Le Comte des Cierges" meaning "Keeper of Candles." This concierge was the person who managed the candles in castles in medieval France. Today, the term is used for hotel managers who are in charge of guest services and serve as personal assistants to guests, making sure they are provided with everything they need to feel comfortable during their stay.
The Union International des Concierges d'Hotel (U.I.C.H) holds an annual meeting to maintain the highest standards in concierge services and awards Les Clefs d'Or (Golden Keys) to exemplary concierges for their excellent service and dedication to the profession. Under the UICH's slogan "Service through Friendship," we provide the best service through our global network, regardless of which hotel you are staying in.
